PCW finally caught a break.
After losing their regular venue in December, running outdoors in 40 degree weather on New Year’s Eve and still being without a building for their annual St. Patrick’s Day event, the promotion was gifted with a perfect night for an outdoor event.
80 were in attendance at the Porterdale Memorial Gym to mark PCW’s 5th anniversary in Porterdale.
Matchmaker Matt Hankins had his smoke and mirror machine working overtime. It has to be tough to keep a cast of characters together when you’re not sure when or where you’re next show will be. PCW not only pulled it off, but put on a decent show, albeit with many in the crew working double shots.
The clear highlight of the evening was a streetfight between Brian Blaze and Brian Kane that rivaled any in the history of company.
Hankins, Johnny Danger and Iceberg were out to open the show. Hankins said he asked for warmth, sunshine and his people and got all three.
Jonathan Malick sarcastically welcomed his adoring fans. Said his Guild had assembled an unstoppable force the likes of which PCW has never seen. Like St. Patrick, they would rid PCW of the nonbelievers. Shane Marx was revealed as the ideal choice for Gunner Miller's partner.
Hankins said it was the second most aggressive thing he had ever seen Malick do (behind sabotaging their building). Despite the alleged code violations, the space has reopened as an Italian restaurant.
(1)Tag Team Season Match: The Guild (Shane Marx & Gunner Miller with Jonathan Malick) defeated H8 Club (Stunt Marshall & Cameron Jackson with Rico Rodriguez) in 12:56. Two heel The crowd backed Miller and Marx, who have earned their respect. Marshall outsmarted Marx to gain an early advantage. Jackson with a pumphandle slam, Marshall with an assisted elbow drop, then too much lollygagging on a diving headbutt. Miller took Marshall to suplex city. Hankins brought up Marx and Miller having match of the night at the 2018 SCI. Miller did squats with Marshall on his back before delivering a Samoan Drop. Great stuff. Maintaining order was a lost cause for referee Darryl Howe (who officiated every match). Finish was a Miller spear, a Marx brainbuster and a double pin. Presuming there is a tag team season, Marx and Miller are clearly the team to beat.
Rodriguez said they H8 Club were leaving (headed down I 20 to the Peachstate show in Carrollton).
Marx said they had the tag team season in the bag. “Daddy’s home!” said Miller.
(2) The Carpenter defeated Cash Calloway in 3:58. Calloway did a Pearl Harbor job on Carpenter before the bell and continued to take shortcuts. When Carpenter went for his finisher, Calloway nutted him on the ropes and grabbed Carpenter’s baseball bat. Geter took the bat away and Carpenter rolled Calloway up. Match was what it was.
Calloway smacked Geter after the match. Silly boy. Geter wasted Calloway with Greetings from Asbury Park.
(3) The Heathens (Logan & Brooklyn Creed) vs. Brad Cash & Nina Monet was ruled a double DQ at 7:34. Monet and Brooklyn started. At first, it looked like the size difference was going to be a problem but they ended up working pretty well together. Monet stayed in against Logan. He was about to slap her but Brooklyn tagged back in. Brooklyn softened Monet up and told Logan “now you can kill her.” Monet scrambled for a tag. Cash clotheslined Logan over the top rope and calmly kept Brooklyn at bay while she flailed away. Funny stuff. The Heathens isolated Cash. Logan and Brooklyn did a sloppy kiss to celebrate. Cash kissed Brooklyn. Brooklyn went to slap Cash and slapped Logan instead with perfect timing. Brooklyn gave Cash a hangman’s neckbreaker. Monet gave Logan a DDT. The women brawled to the back for the double DQ.
Cash put a Tide pod in his mouth and sprayed the contents into Logan’s face. Leave it to Cash to pull something like that. Match was whimsically entertaining.
Bill the Butcher’s opponent Jacob Ashworth wasn’t there. Since communication with Butcher is a problem, Hankins explained Butcher was issuing an open challenge.
(4) Bill the Butcher defeated Dominque Stuckey and Southern States Champion ERC (with Hassan & Shane Marx & Jonathan Malick) to retain the PCW Championship in 8:25. ERC picked his spots and played opportunist throughout. The Guild interfered and gave Butcher a beating. Stuckey had ERC pinned with a DDT and Butcher had to make a save. Stuckey and ERC teamed up to take Butcher out. ERC donkey kicked Stuckey in the groin and hit a frogsplash, but tooted his horn instead of making the cover. Butcher nailed ERC with a big boot. Marx pulled ERC to safety. Hassan kicked Butcher in the face and Butcher fell back on top of Stuckey for the 1-2-3. ERC is always fun to watch. I couldn’t buy Butcher selling anything for guys as small as ERC or Stuckey except for the brief moments they worked together. The finish didn't do Butcher or the title any favors.
(5) Brian Kane defeated Brian Blaze in a Porterdale Streetfight at 17:27. Both came to the ring with chairs. Kane waffled Blaze and blasted his noggin with a pizza pan. Blaze whipped Kane into a wedged chair and choked him with a belt. Kane whipped Blaze with the belt. Blaze tried to use brass knucks but Kane cut him off with a superkick. The action spilled to ringside. Blaze whipped Kane into the brick wall and snap suplexed him on the concrete, producing a sickening thud. Blaze went into the locker room and reappeared with Carpenter’s bat. Carpenter took the bat away and Kane did a dive off the stage for a “this is awesome” chant. They brawled into the bathroom. Fans couldn’t see what was going on. Let it be know n they were throwing rolls of toilet paper at each other. Blaze whipped Kane through several rows of chairs. Back inside the ring, Kane gave Blaze a drop toe hold onto the chair, then launched a senton off the chair. Kane tried for a superkick and got waffled with a chair to the back instead. Blaze went for a pumphandle move onto a chair but Kane reversed into a DDT. Blaze had Kane in the tree of woe and put a noose around his neck to choke him out. Howe said that was too much and intervened. They both made a run for the knucks. Kane got their first. Blaze begged for mercy. Fans chanted “Do it”. Kane was more than willing. Blaze cut Kane off and went for his pumphandle finisher again. Kane gave Blaze a low blow and rolled him up.
Blaze and Kane put on an epic streetfight filled with creative spots and gut wrenching brutality. The Memorial Gym is great venue for this type of match and they took full advantage of the possibilities.
Hankins told the fans he didn’t know when he would see them next, but nobody else had the guts, brains and balls to do what PCW does.
