Clips from last week of Danny Davis turning over control of OVW to Dean Hill followed by Dean saying that he will have a chat with OUR OVW TV Champion Randy Royal next week.
After the opening, "Anchorman" Gilbert Corsey welcomes OUR OVW Tag Team Champions Adam Wylde and Robbie Walker to the ring, after a controversial win over War Machine last week to gain those titles. Walker says it was 4 months ago that War Machine took him out of action with a concussion but it only took him 4 minutes to get revenge on them. Gilbert turns to Wylde and asks who really is his tag partner, as original partner Mitch Huff got jumped by War Machine before the match and had to be hauled away. This brings out Huff, who welcomes back Walker and thanks him for having their back last week. Huff then reminds us that he signed the contract for the match! Walker then says he rooted for Wylde and Huff while he was out and compliments Huff on doing a good job of filling in for him, to which Huff takes offense. Wylde tries to make peace as Josh Ashcraft leads out War Machine (Eric Locker, Big Jon, & Trevor Steele). Ashcraft says those tag belts need to be handed over to him as he reiterates Huff's point about the contract saying "Wylde and Huff" as their opponents.
Dean Hill comes out to say that his plate has been full since taking over and that The Royal Situation is on tonight's agenda. Maybe he needs to go all Pulp Fiction and call in The Wolf. Hill agrees that Huff's name was on the contract but he was knocked out before the match even officially started. He adds that in "Dean Hill's OVW", the refs will have power and since the ref acknowledged Wylde's tag to Walker, the decision will stand. Dean suggests that Walker, Wylde, and Huff work out their problems in the back. Also in "Dean Hill's OVW", it will be a place of action so he makes a six-man tag match for RIGHT NOW!! Instant gratification: the stuff of leadership.
Action begins as Scruffy Ref scrambles from the back and into the ring. Wylde missile dropkicks Jon out of the ring then somersaults out onto the War Machine trio as we go to break.
War Machine (w/Ashcraft) vs Walker, Wylde, and Huff
Locker ends up in the wrong corner as "Career Killer" Timmy Danger joins Gilbert on commentary. Danger calls Dean's ruling "malarkey" but then fails on a baseball analogy. Locker backdrops Wylde to the apron, where he has to kick Jon and Steele away. This allows Locker to charge and knock him off, sending him all the way into the broadcast table. Locker chucks him back in and suplexes him. Wylde pushes Locker back so Locker turns and pops Walker but Wylde tags in Huff. Locker gets superkicked for 2 but Steele saves and tosses out Wylde. Locker catches Huff's second superkick and spins him around but Walker runs over and sets up for the Cosmic Kick. Locker ducks and Huff gets kicked right in the face! Locker suplexes Walker and covers Huff for the pin.
In the back, Jessie Belle is with Royal and she too is concerned about The Royal Situation. Royal says he will deal with that as Jessie needs to worry about her match tonight. Jessie then encounters her opponent, OUR OVW Hula Hoop Champion Ray Lynn! Jessie says Ray Lynn won't get lucky and pin her like that "overglorified bimbo" Rebel did last week. Naturally, here's Rebel into the scene for a rebuttal. Actually Jessie, WE got lucky last week and we will be 50% luckier this week after Ray Lynn suggests a 3-way match!! An indignant Jessie corrects her and calls it a "triple threat match".
The next Saturday Night Special is 8/1. Gilbert plugs an OVW Live Event on 7/18 in Elizabethtown with a main event that was signed before the regime change but the fans deserve to see it anyway (well the ones who watch the Louisville TV anyway, as this wasn't posted online until Monday 7/20) which has Davis, Trailer Park Trash, and "Superstar" Bill Dundee taking on The Outcasts (Royal, Jason Lee, and Vic the Bruiser). Maybe we can get back to getting these online on Thursday or Friday.
Rump Thump spots OUR OVW Champion "The Teflon Don from Boca Raton" Eddie Diamond in the back. RT says he wasn't 100% focused on his match with Diamond last week because he got a call that his brother had been locked up in jail (oh no, Albert Einstein Baxter is incarcerated???) and asks, as a friend, if he can have a rematch. Diamond says RT is his boy, so he can have another match but once the bell rings, he will get treated like everyone else and have to tap out!
Ray Lynn vs Jessie Belle vs Rebel
Lucky man Jordan Barker gets to ref as Ray Lynn gives us a mini-twerk while Rebel is in her micro-Daisy Dukes again. Rebel poses while Jessie runs over and dumps Ray Lynn out of the ring. Rebel kicks on Jessie then pulls her into a half nelson into a famouser for 2 but Ray Lynn returns to break that up. Danger opines that everyone is walking on eggshells around here since Dean took over. Ray Lynn dropkicks but Rebel backdrops and covers but Jessie breaks it up. Jessie backbreakers Ray Lynn, who rolls out. Jessie shoves Rebel back to the corner and rams shoulders into her before charging at her. Like last week, Rebel leaps over her and rolls her up but Jessie rolls her forward. Unlike last week, Jessie grabs her some ropes and holds Rebel down for the pin.
Jessie holds up three fingers, possibly to signify that it was three-star match. I beg to differ and on the Meltzer scale (of 0 to 5 stars), I give this match *******1/2!!
In the parking lot, Top Hat Guy has a whip and is using it on a picture of Danny Davis with his Nightmare look. Facepaint Girl is looking in a mirror. Dapper Dan Van Zant says the world was created in 7 days and in 7 days he will alter the world forever! He says OVW has been so preoccupied that they didn't see the storm blowing in. It's showtime and the circus is coming to town!!
In the back, Jade Dawson has a band-aid over his eye. He asks if Rev. Stuart Miles' best shot during their street fight was to try and blind him. He says he has beaten Miles all over the place and Miles can believe one thing, that it isn't over between them!
Organ music plays and Miles comes to the ring. Gilbert informs us that Dawson won the street fight at SNS but Miles sprayed "holy water" in Dawson's eye, blinding him. A humbled Miles says "hello everyone" and then say that although he has preached many good words, tonight he has a real good word-"forgiveness". He saw what he did to Dawson and he claims to be truly sorry for that. He asks for forgiveness from both Dawson and the fans. He doesn't expect to fix this with talking but he claims to have changed. He puts the mic down and walks off. Danger is willing to forgive him, Gilbert not so much.
Gilbert talks about Ryan Howe and has a one-on-one exclusive with him. Apparently, these are excerpts from a longer interview. Howe says he has busted his ass and all he can get is the second-best title in OVW. He feels guilty for not being there for his mom, who is apparently not getting quality care from hired caregivers, who he says don't care whether she lives or dies which is the same attitude half the people he wrestles has! On his marriage, he thought he could trust and even after the divorce he thought that the love was still there. He says maybe it's good he questions it. Howe plays some guitar as Gilbert's voice over says this will air next week and it will be Howe like you have never seen him!
Outside, Royal is talking to Vic and telling him to scout. Royal says he will have his revenge!
Rump Thump vs Diamond
Scruffy Ref is in charge as both wrestlers have different music. Danger believes RT is taking advantage of his friendship with Diamond, but then notes that Diamond took advantage of his friendship (with Danger)! RT handshakes into tossing Diamond around and is noticeably more aggressive here. Diamond boots RT but then gets decked with a right hook. RT hits Rump Thump The Move but Diamond is right back up to pull RT into the Crossfire. RT rolls Diamond back for 2 but "Psycho-delic Superstar" Chris Silvio runs in and whacks both guys with a chair for the (I assume) no-contest.
Silvio props a ladder in the corner but Diamond grabs him and slingshots him into the ladder. Out on the floor, Diamond pounds Silvio on the announce table and climbs the ladder. Silvio rolls off and heads for the exit. At Friday Night Fights on 7/24 Diamond defends against Silvio in a tables/ladders/chairs match!
In the back, Dean is walking with a purpose!
Clip from last week of Pope Elijah Burke maybe motivating Marcus Anthony. Gilbert has no explanation except that Burke has gotten in Anthony's head. Danger (who managed Anthony a while back) says he has never seen Anthony like that.
Dean is in the ring to deal with The Royal Situation. Royal and Jessie come out to the ring. Dean says the altercation with Royal is the reason that he bought 51% of OVW. Royal snatches the mic away and tells a story about a senile old man putting his hands on him. Royal says his lawyer calls this assault and battery and also workplace violence, so he says Dean will not fire him, suspend him, or strip him of the TV title. Dean says he wasn't going to do any of those anyway since Royal is going to defend the title right now! Royal's opponent is the last man that he lost a title to: Dylan Bostic!!
Royal vs Bostic
Barker is the ref here as Gilbert and Danger argue Bostic's title shot worthiness. Bostic hiptosses and Royal backs off. Bostic walks the ropes and armdrags and Royal bails out. Bostic launches out onto him and throws him back in but gets caught in a legsweep. Bostic goes up top but Royal follows him up before getting knocked off. Bostic dropkicks then huracanranas Royal for 2 but runs into an elbow. Royal sets up for the Royal Treatment (a pedigree thing) but Bostic slips out and around to hit the Backstabber on Royal for the pin and the TV title as the show goes off.
I'm digging the direction that this show is going. I wonder if what really happened is that Davis just got burned out as it seems the energy here has really picked up. I still like the fleshing out of the characters, this week it was Rump Thump and Howe. I wonder what others who watch this think? They also have a 29-minute web extra online with a couple of matches taped the same night this was. This show reverted back to the 53 minute format this week but it still gets a thumbs up from me!
