This is a recap of OVW TV Episode 791 that aired in Louisville on 10/18 and is available online at http://www.ovwrestling.com/tv/791
We begin with a clip from episode 768 where Marcus Anthony and Mohamed Ali Vaez are slugging it out in the ring when the clip slows to show Anthony's left fist hitting Vaez upside the head. Another clip from episode 784 is shown where Vaez has Anthony locked up in a crossface. Vaez releases the hold and rolls on his back, appearing woozy. Anthony picks Vaez up and powerbombs him twice then ref Jordan Barker checks on Vaez, whose eyes are rolling in his head, and calls for the bell.
In the back, Vaez is taping his fists. He addresses Michael Titus, saying he has waited six months for this and he is dressed for war against Titus' War Machine (Eric Locker). Vaez says when he is done; nothing will stand between him and Titus!
After the show opening, we join OUR OVW Announce Team of "Mean" Dean Hill and "Anchorman" Gilbert Corsey (who doubles as OUR OVW Ring Announcer) as OUR OVW Champion "Mr. 1859" Cliff Compton comes to the ring. Compton says that it's no secret that at the 11/1 Saturday Night Special, he will have a "marvelous" rematch with Mr. Marvelous Melvin Maximus and promises to walk out as the champion. Here comes Mary Jane (in red tonight) followed by OUR OVW TV Champion "Psychedelic Superstar" Chris Silvio, who greets his old friend but adds that time has treated Compton badly. Silvio notes that not much has changed since for the last three weeks, he has stolen the show while "big shot" Compton gets interview time. Silvio says he does the heavy lifting while Compton gets all the glory. Compton asks the fans if anyone knows what Silvio is talking about. Silvio says that belt Compton is carrying belongs on his shoulders since he has beaten Compton in the past but he's not doing for free since it would be a big money match! Compton says Silvio is as delusional as his Rolling Stones entrance music but admits that Silvio defeated him in one of the most iconic steel cage matches of all time! Compton issues a challenge but Silvio turns it down since his scheduled opponent Michael (not PS) Hayes is absent, so he will just take the night off. Here's Timmy Danger out in a ref shirt and something taped to his ear! Danger says he has been talking to OUR OVW Owner "Nightmare" Danny Davis, who said that the TV title needed to be defended tonight. Danger says since there is a ref in the ring (him) then we have a match starting now!!
Match #1: OUR OVW TV Champion "Host of The Chris Silvio Show" Chris Silvio (w/Mary Jane-in red!) vs OUR OVW Champion "Mr. 1859" (or is it now "Mr. 1859218"?) Cliff Compton
Only the TV title is at stake here as Compton pulls Silvio into the ring but gets bopped in the head. Silvio kicks and punches away, sending Compton staggering into the corner. Silvio comes off the top with a fist then comes off the opposite corner, where Compton catches and plants him into the mat. Silvio rolls out as we go to break.
Back from break, Melvin has joined Gilbert and Dean at the announce table as Compton reverse whips Silvio into the corner and over the top onto the apron. Compton bangs Silvio's head into some turnbuckles as Melvin correctly notes that Compton did not pin him to win the title at 10/4 SNS (Compton pinned Anthony to win the triple threat match) and is prepared for whatever Compton brings to the ring. Meanwhile, Silvio tries an axe kick but gets flipped away. Silvio shoots Compton into the corner then chokes him in the ropes before hitting a guillotine legdrop. Melvin says he has been doing some extra conditioning as Compton fights back but misses a splash and gets rolled up for 2. Compton gets free from a rear chinlock and suplexes Silvio, who responds with a chinbreaker and some knees to the back. Dean compliments Melvin on his new ring robes as Silvio goes for a rocket punch but misses and gets speared. Melvin says that it is unlikely that Compton would spear him! Silvio drop toeholds Compton and turns this into a half crab but gets kicked away. Silvio charges with a lariat but both he and Compton go over the top and out to the floor. Dean asks Melvin if he is working on any variations of the deadly bearhug. Silvio walks over to the announce table to accuse Melvin of stealing his spotlight but walks away when Melvin stands up. Silvio grabs a chair and takes it into the ring to hit Compton. Melvin follows him and snatches it away then lariats Silvio! Danger calls for the bell and DQs Compton.
Mary Jane hugs Silvio in celebration of his triumph as Scruffy Ref and Nick Dumeyer Ref come out to get between Compton and Melvin.
Match #2: The Body Guy (w/Big Jon Body) vs "Diamond Steel" Ryan Howe
Nick Dumeyer Ref is in charge here as Body Guy tries to seduce the crowd. Howe is without his trusty guitar as he pats the speakers on the way to the ring. They trade armworking to start until Body Guy misses a fistdrop. Body Guy fights out of an armbar but ends up taking a flurry of armdrags and is right back down on the mat. Body Guy gets to his feet and backs Howe to the ropes, where Big Jon yanks him out to the floor. Howe turns to attack Big Jon but Body Guy attacks from behind. Back in the ring, Howe gets whipped into the ropes but does the drop-n-pop on Body Guy, then slings him to and fro between the corners. Howe hits an armbreaker and sets up the Whammy Bar. The Congregation comes out to ringside with Jade Dawson getting on the apron before getting knocked off by Howe. Jake Glasure then gets on the apron only to be dropkicked off by Howe, who turns to see Rev. Stuart Miles holding up the stolen guitar. Body Guy runs up and kicks Howe then gives him the double underhook plunge for the pin.
Miles taunts Howe by doing some guitar playing of his own.
Match #3: Dapper Dan vs "Primetime" Robbie Walker
Scruffy Ref watches Dan stroke his mustache as Dean compares Dan to John L. Sullivan (except Mr. Peabody and Sherman didn't have to tie balloons to his mustache to keep him upright during this match). Dan commences beating on Walker then whips him into the ropes. Walker ducks a lariat but Dan catches the Cosmic Kick Out of Nowhere and gives him a lariat. Dan resumes the beating until he again catches Walker's kick and sideslams him. Dan and the mustache administer a third set of beating until he misses a splash. Walker sets up for the kick but again Dan catches it and pulls him in to set up the deadly German suplex. Walker hangs on and rolls forward to pin Dan!!
Dan's sore loser attack consists of a single deadly German suplex and a bow to the fans.
Howe is in the back, still irritated at what happened earlier. The Wild Boyz ("The Teflon Don from Boca Raton" Eddie Diamond & "Party Starter" Bud Dwight) come up to Howe and invite him to go out and party with them. Howe declines as he needs to get his guitar back. Diamond tells him not to get mad but to get even and invites Howe to walk and talk with them.
Rump Thump is sitting with the OVW Medical Guy, who has looked at Rump Thump's MRI on the knee that he hurt at SNS and determines that he is OK but recommends an extra week of rest. Medical Guy understands that Rump Thump wants to hurry up and get back to the ring then shows us his knee that he tore up while training with Dusty Rhodes, Nikita Koloff, and Ted Dibiase, which ended his career. Rump Thump seems really happy with this advice.
Match #4: The Congregation (Jake Glasure & Jade Dawson w/Rev. Stuart Miles) vs TerreMex (Randy Terrez & "Mexicutioner" Roberto DeLuna)
The Congregation bows their heads over the stolen guitar as Nick Dumeyer Ref is in charge here. TerreMex works over Dawson to start as Gilbert brings up Miles getting his men to change their names in the way a cult leader would (although neither he nor Dean call them by the changed names or even mention what they are), so Dean compares Miles to Jim Jones! Meanwhile, TerreMex does stereo grapevines on Dawson's arms then drops back and stretches them out. Dawson then is subjected to a double hiptoss followed by a back senton/legdrop combo before biting DeLuna to get free (no word on what DeLuna tasted like). DeLuna whips Terrez into Glasure then Terrez slingshots DeLuna over the ropes onto Glasure. DeLuna slams Terrez onto Glasure for 2 but Terrez gets shoved into the Amen Corner for some brief double-teaming. Dawson misses a splash and Terrez gives him a brainbuster suplex for 2 but Glasure makes the save. Glasure leapfrogs Terrez and gets spinebustered by DeLuna (Gilbert calls Glasure "Laurenitis" for some reason). DeLuna grabs Dawson and holds him up so Terrez can plant him into the mat and DeLuna can cover him for the pin.
TerreMex poses in the ring but Miles uses the Good Book for a sore loser attack! Miles then grabs the guitar (which is not made of balsa) and gets ready to whack DeLuna but Howe hits the ring! Howe tries to grab the guitar but Glasure comes after him and Miles and the guitar make a hasty retreat. Howe clears the ring then makes off with Miles' Good Book!
Dean and Gilbert mention a Future Talent Showcase on Sunday 10/19 at the Davis Arena. They don't mention Elizabethtown, KY on 10/25 although there were several ads for it during the show.
Match #5: One-half of OUR OVW Tag Team Champions Eric Locker (w/the other half Shiloh Jonze & Michael Titus) vs Mohamed Ali Vaez
Jonze grabs a chair and hides behind the curtain. Vaez comes out (wearing camo), sees Jonze and ducks the chair shot but Locker runs out to grab Vaez. Locker can't hold on and Jonze plows into Locker. Ref Timmy Danger ejects Jonze from ringside and the two wrestlers make their way to the ring. Vaez hits a neckbreaker but also hit his head on the canvas and is slow to get over to cover Locker for 2. Vaez fights off a suplex and targets Locker's leg, eventually setting up a figure four. Dean believes that Vaez' doctor is probably calling OVW as we speak. Locker rolls then all the way to the ropes, where Vaez rolls on out. Vaez chopblocks Locker and resumes the leg abuse, setting up the figure four again. Locker eventually makes the ropes and Vaez looks to be dizzy. Locker kicks Vaez into the corner as we go to break.
Back from break, Locker reaches up and pops Vaez but both are slow to get up. Locker powerslams then schoolboys Vaez for 2 but Vaez rolls him over into a crossface. Vaez rolls over Locker and changes sides to keep him away from the ropes but Titus reaches in and pulls Vaez by the leg and out to break the hold. Vaez chases Titus through the ring but Locker rolls him up. Vaez then rolls Locker into a camel clutch. Ref Josh Ashcraft runs out to lowblow Danger from behind and dump him out. Vaez grabs Ashcraft and shoves him back to the corner. Jonze runs out but Vaez turns around to give him a neckbreaker. Meanwhile, Locker has removed a turnbuckle pad so when Vaez charges and misses, his head hits the exposed turnbuckle. Locker gives him the Hurt Locker for the pin.
OVW Medical Guy, OUR OVW Director of Operations Trailer Park Trash, and Nick Dumeyer Ref all come out to check on Vaez, who gets placed on a backboard as the show goes off.
THOUGHTS: I'm not really sure what to think of this whole concussion thing with Vaez but it could go on for a while given how painfully long the whole Ashcraft as the evil ref has gone on. Will the Good Book get put on a pole? Will the guitar get put on a pole? Will they both get put on poles?
I don't recall seeing Mary Jane actually interfere in a match. I liked Silvio/Compton and Dean asking strategy questions to Melvin. I guess this show was fair, so I'll give it a thumbs just a tad above the middle.
