From Platinum Championship Wrestling:
Tragedy Strikes
It's not an exaggeration to say that every Platinum Championship Wrestling show from the Main Event Arena in Porterdale is historic, but the events that transpired on Saturday, August 16th will live forever in infamy. Lives were changed, careers may have been shortened or ended entirely, and we were all left with many unanswered questions as we look towards the return of the Platinum Classic event scheduled for next Saturday, August 23rd, and ultimately, Sacred Ground: Chapter IV
Match One: The Jagged Edge Vs. Lars Manderson in a Bullrope Match
Since making his earth-shaking return at the 2014 Revolutionary War Games, The Jagged Edge has set his sights on one "Hit for Hire" Bobby Moore. He's been declaring his intentions to face Moore in a Bullrope Match to any and everyone who will listen. On this night, Lars Manderson was in no mood to listen to the dominant veteran. Manderson, hungry to prove his own dominance in the realm of PCW, accepted Jagged's impromptu challenge to make this contest a Bullrope Match, and the combatants were joined at the wrist by the unforgiving rope.
Both men took full advantage of the rope, using it to strangle and clothesline one another at various points in the match. To Manderson's credit, he did not let the much-deserved hype of The Jagged Edge throw him off his game, and he was able to match the Jagged One blow for blow in the opening minuets of the contest.
Jagged planted Manderson with a big scoop slam, and Manderson answered back with a suplex. Manderson may have let his dominance in the match go to his head as his arrogance began to show, but the Jagged Edge rung his bell, literally, with the cowbell attached to the bullrope, and put Manderson away to secure the win.
Winner: The Jagged Edge
After the match, The Jagged Edge demanded a microphone to once more deliver his challenge to Bobby Moore. Moore chose, perhaps wisely, to stay away from the building that night, but word travels fast in wrestling and he will not be able to avoid the challenge for long.
Match Two: Jason Collins & Ben Thrasher Vs. Damien Legion & Elite Vs. Black Powers (Josh Powers & Jett Black)
The second match of the evening was fast and furious even by PCW standards. Calling the action would've been tough enough for the announce team of Johnny Danger and DeWitt Dawson, but in the opening moments, the Walking A-Bomb, Geter, made his way to the announce booth to make sure our commentators remembered who the dominant force in tag team wrestling in the state of Georgia is; The Big F'n Deal.
Geter's intimidation non withstanding, the six men in the ring gave it their all. Another uninvited quest at ringside would be Quasi Mandisco, perhaps scouting these new tag teams for a possible spot in his violent organization known as MAIM. The crowd favorite appeared to be the charismatic duo of Black and Powers, and Black, the smallest man in the contest, took the brunt of the abuse from the other teams. At one point he found himself slammed on his head and then rocked with a sitout spinebuster. When Black finally made the tag to powers, chaos ensued and the referee temporarily lost control. Black appeared to injure his shoulder diving to the floor to wipe out the competition, as Powers delivered a big move to Elite in the ring. Thrasher, however, was able to tag himself in blindly and toss Powers to the outside to steal the win for his team.
Winners: Jason Collins and Ben Thrasher
Following the match, Geter made sure to get his point across as he entered the ring to demand the respect he feels he is entitled to. Geter told the fans he is sick of hearing about how great the Washington Bullets are when he and his currently MIA partner Brian Blaze defeated them at last year's Sacred Ground. Perhaps seeing commentators Danger and Dawson as the face of PCW at the moment, Geter told them he was tired of the way the Bullets were protected and how Big F'n Deal does not get the respect and accolades they are due, he questioned why the Bullets were seen as the top attraction and received the special matches with visiting teams, and Geter less than subtly reminded the announcers that he broke someone's neck in the ring before and would not be afraid to do it again. With or without Blaze, Geter plans on ending the Williams brothers once and for all at this year's Sacred Ground event. Geter's path of rage is not limited just to PCW staff and wrestlers as an unwise fan found himself the target of the monster's fury on his way to the locker room.
Match Three: "The Revelation" Shane Marx w/ Ms. Rachael Vs. MAIM
This was to be a No DQ Gauntlet Match where Marx would have to defeat all members of MAIM in succession to earn his spot in next week's Platinum Classic, for a shot at Chip Day and regaining the PCW Championship. Marx, with the always lovely Rachael at his side, certainly appeared focused.
MAIM was in rare form even for them, with Quasi first taking issue with Danger's ring introduction, demanding his long time rival refer to him as "The King of the Street Fight Quasi Mandisco". Danger complied to avoid a confrontation, preferring to leave that to The Revelation. MAIM ganged up on Marx during his ring introduction, pummeling him on the outside before the former champion could remove his jacket, Deandre Jackson would be the first opponent, and he rammed Marx into the ringpost and the apron of the ring.
Jackson took his time getting Shane Marx into the ring, and used the no DQ stipulation to the fullest, choking and beating on the Revelation instead of using wrestling maneuvers. Jackson's downfall may have been trash talking and paintbrushing Marx, who finally exploded and put Jackson away for a 1-2-3, eliminating the first member of MAIM.
This left new member "The Upgrade" Brian Kane and "Savage" Shane to compete, and after conferring with Mandisco on the outside, both men rushed the ring and assaulted Marx. Senior Referee Chuck Porterfield, called back into action for this match, was powerless thanks to the no DQ rules, and the gauntlet match became a handicap match. Kane and the Savage one took it to Shane Marx, but to Marx's credit, any time MAIM backed off the assault to gloat, he fought back with the fire and heart of a champion. It looked to be over forr Marx when Kane hit a gorgeous moonsault, but Marx was able to get a shoulder up, as the also-gorgeous Rachael and all the fans in the building cheered him on.
Frustrated by their inability to finish Marx off, MAIM once again met with Mandisco in the corner, and he seemed to have calmed his men down and given them a strategy. Kane hefted Marx to his feet and held him up for Savage Shane, but Marx was able to duck and Shane clobbered his partner. Tensions continue to build between Shane and his teammates in MAIM, and this break in the assault was all Marx needed to recover, and he laid Savage Shane out with a scoop powerslam and wiped out Kane with his patented spinebuster. The momentum did not last long however as the numbers game took over once again. MAIM talked shop once again, but Marx was able to get to his feet. The Revelation charged, and it looked as if Kane shoved Savage into his path, and a thunderous spear connected to eliminate Savage Shane.
Before the contest could continue, Deandre Jackson returned to the ring to pummel Marx. The referee could not disqualify Brian Kane, but the perpetual thorn in MAIM's side, Johnny Danger, once again started the Let Us See chant that spread like wildfire in the building, and PCW's mysterious cloaked savior appeared once more to run Jackson and Savage Shane out of town. As soon as the match continued, Brian Kane pounced on Marx, looking to cover him after the mugging, but Marx would not stay down. Kane went for another moonsault, but Marx was able to avoid this one and cover The Upgrade to eliminate the last member of MAIM.
Or so he thought. Showing perhaps a severe lack of judgment, Quasi Mandisco entered the ring, informing Porterfield he would be Marx's final opponent. Quasi stomped and choked Marx, and almost scored the upset of the millennium when he got a two count on the Revelation. Quasi produced his infamous pair of brass knuckles that earned him the title of King, and throwing the lack of bias an announcer should show out the window, Danger yelled a warning to Marx who was able to duck the knockout shot, hoist Mandisco onto his shoulders, and plant him with Natural Selection, finally ending the contest and securing his spot in the Platinum Classic.
Winner: Shane Marx
Match Four: Supernatural Vs Marko Polo Vs Adrian Armour Vs Morgan Davis III
PCW returned from a short intermission with an explosive contest for another coveted spot in the Platinum Classic. This was an elimination style match where the final two wrestlers both would earn a spot in next week's event, but the lone survivor would get to choose their own spot in the Classic.
Despite this not being a traditional tag team contest, crowd favorites Supernatural and Marko worked together in the early moments against Davis. Supernatural assaulted Davis with kicks and tied him up in the ropes with a modified submission hold. Davis answered back with a suplex and spiked Supernatural right on top of his head, compressing his spine with a DDT. Supernatural fought back, producing a giant monkey mask of all things and donning it to hit a diving headbutt to Davis, but it was Adrian Armour who would score the pin and the first elimination, ending Davis' evening.
Supernatural returned to the ring to take it to Armour with kicks, forearm strikes, high knees and a stomp to the back of the head, but the cocky rookie kept coming. Supernatural trapped him in the guillotine choke he has won matches with before, but the powerful Armour was able to hurl him off. Armour deflected a blow from Supernatural and rocked him with a Superman punch, adding insult to injury by placing the monkey mask back on Supernatural before absolutely murdering him with a Discus Lariat, and eliminating the former champion.
This left Polo and Armour. A shoving match ensued and the two athletes squared off in the center of the ring, but it was Armour who quickly snuck away with yet another win, able to eliminate all three opponents in succession and earning the right to choose where he will enter in the Platinum Classic
Winner: Adrian Armour
MAIN EVENT: Chip Day (c) Vs. Velvet Jones for the PCW Championship
Before the match could begin, Velvet, recognizing the threat of Jeff G. Bailey lurking outside the ring, called out someone to watch his back who has no love lost for Day and Bailey, Ms. Rachael!
The Champion, Day, had a tough time getting going against Velvet. Every move attempt, every slam, every suplex, was blocked and countered in kind by the challenger, Time and time again, Day rolled to the floor in frustration, going so far as to kick the steel barricade in anger. Day seemed to consider walking out of the match, but returned to the ring,
Chip was able to turn the side with his trademark kicks, perhaps the most punishing in wrestling, and absolutely lit Velvet up with running chops in the corner. Day dropped Velvet on the back of his head with a backdrop suplex. Velvet tried to mount some offense but was sent back to the canvas with a Chip Day missile dropkick.
Velvet answered back with a slam, as both men were holding nothing back and fatigue was setting in fast. Velvet appeared to get the better of Day in a center ring slugfest and was able to block Chip's deadly Northern Lights Driver. Chip was able to score with a springboard Tornado Kick, and Velvet's championship hopes were ended by Day of the Dead, and the champion retained.
Winner: Chip Day
Adrian Armour returned to the ring with a chair, and joined Day in putting the boots to the fallen Jones. Rachael entered the ring imploring them to cease the assault, and what followed ranks among the most shocking and disgusting events in PCW history as Jeff G. Bailey blindsided Rachael, first hitting her in the back of the head with the PCW Championship. As Rachael lay prone, despite the announcers and referee Chuck Porterfield screaming for him to stop, Jeff laid Rachael's head on the belt like a chopping block and delivered a heinous chair shot to her skull.
In the following chaos, building owner and Porterdale city council member Tim Savage grabbed a microphone and ordered Bailey, Day and Armour from the building under threat of arrest. Shane Marx, Johnny Danger and Chuck Porterfield stood over Rachael in the ring as 9-11 was called. After a few agonizing moments, paramedics arrived and the bottom rope was removed from the ring so Rachael could be loaded onto a stretcher. An uncomfortable hush fell over the building as PCW personnel pleaded with the fans to keep quiet and clear a path for the injured Rachael. She was loaded into the ambulance and departed with lights and sirens. Marx returned to the building to collect his and Rachael's personal belongings, stopping long enough to declare that he was going to win the Platinum Classic, and go on to make Chip, Armour, and Bailey his bitches.
In an update from Shane Marx later that night, it was revealed Rachael suffered a concussion and was kept overnight for observation. She was released early this morning, groggy but responsive, and will be resting at home. We invite the fans to post their well wishes to Rachael here at the PCW Facebook page, and we will pass them on to her in her recovery.
